About Us

History

The Logan M.A.D. Association Inc. was formed in 2001 by two gentlemen from Logan City. They were concerned that knowledge, skills and experience of our older population were being lost to future younger generations when they pass on.

To help preserve and pass on these skills, they began a quest to start a club that could bring together the older, younger, male and female population of Logan City and surrounds. This club was for people to meet, discuss, make, display and pass on their expertise in all forms of woodcrafting.

With funds from the State Government's Community Renewal Program, the Logan M.A.D. Association Inc. established our first home base in Kingston and were able to purchase machinery and tools to outfit the club. Within 18 months M.A.D.'s membership increased to over 100 members.

In 2004, The Logan M.A.D. Association Inc. moved into the YMCA facility in Allgas St, Slacks Creek. The YMCA provided generous space for the club in return for our members assistance with their pilot program for youth. The 'shed' aimed to help 'at risk' and marginalised young people who need understanding and caring adults to support and encourage them.

This was a great opportunity for The Logan M.A.D. Association Inc. to work with the younger generation and for our older members to pass on their skills and experience.

In 2009/2010 we moved again. Our new shed is located in Burchill Street, Loganholme. We were aided in obtaining this wonderful location with the help of Logan City Council.  Logan City Council's understanding of community involvement, help and encouragement is of great importance to people of all ages.
